Biography
Shelby is an actress, writer, and director-producer. She is the Co-director of Atlanta’s award-winning PushPush Arts, where she works with her partner, Tim Habeger, to help artists take risks, explore new ideas and collaborate. She has appeared on many screens and stages locally, nationally and internationally over the last 20+ years. She writes and performs her own essays and stories at various literary events, including four winning essays with Write Club Atlanta. She has performed stand-up at many of Atlanta's favorite comedy clubs including The Punchline and Laughing Skull Lounge, as well venues in Phoenix, Chicago, New York & Berlin. She has performed on numerous stages locally, most recently in Every Brilliant Thing at Horizon Theatre. and internationally 30+ productions, including two hit solo shows. Her 2009-2011 performances of the solo show 101 Humiliating Stories garnered numerous awards including one of the Top 50 Shows of the Decade and a Best Actress award from Creative Loafing in 2010. In 2012 she was chosen for an Idea Capital grant to support the development of a script that would ultimately turn into a unique visual art/theater hybrid, See Through, a “walk-through” production about an overly curious tween at an adult party. She is currently touring an original production, High Risk, Baby!, an autobiofictional comedy about the child within the mother and a fate-tempting adventure to Ukraine to conceive. The production was originally developed with support from Idea Capital and the National Endowment for the Arts and has since received awards from Nexus/Andy Warhol Foundation and Alternative Roots. She is currently adapting the play into a short film and graphic novel.
